abroad.

I have been hit with a sudden urge to get away from the woes of western civilization. I feel like stripping myself of all these frivolous wants and needs that quite plainly is only serving to drag me down. (in the simplest form) I want to challenge myself, immerse myself in an utterly new culture, find out everything there is to know about myself. Disregard the trivial things that seem so (falsely) imperative to americans.
So, I have decided, that I will find a study abroad program that will allow me to go to either India or Egypt (possibly both?) over the summer or the fall of next year. In order for this to happen, a job is most necessary, as well as a lesson in saving. Wish me luck in the job hunting game..again.

the sunshine will soon be in hiding

(settling into my new room at breanna's; the nomad that i am.)
Summer is swiftly coming to an end, and I am still bewildered at how quickly it has passed me. I would like to think I have taken full advantage of the break, but I know that would not be the truth. Oklahoma was not quite as I expected, but what ever is? My mind is racing at what to do next. School still seems like a far off illusion that will never happen, yet it starts in less than a week for me. I don't feel like committing to it anymore, I want to put my whole heart into modeling, or go experience a completely different culture. I want to learn by experience, not by sitting in an overcrowded room in a tiny desk.

There must have been a mistake

It is to my great disdain that I realized my Art History course has managed to skip over the entire section of Barbara Kruger. (And no, i did not miss the lecture, if the subject of my poor attendance is in question.) Anyway, I was so eager to go into depth of one of my favorite artists. These are a few of my favorites.

In the back shakes a tambourine, nicotine from a silver screen

I was part of Warhol's infamous factory entourage in a past life.

"Like to take a cement fix
Be a standing cinema
Dress my friends up just for show
See them as they really are
Put a peephole in my brain
Two New Pence to have a go
I'd like to be a galleryPut you all inside my show"-Bowie

"And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
A hand-me-down dress from who knows where
To all tomorrow's parties
And where will she go and what shall she do When midnight comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown
And cry behind the door
And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
Why silks and linens of yesterday's gowns
To all tomorrow's parties
And what will she do with Thursday's rags
When Monday comes around
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown
And cry behind the door
And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown
For whom none will go mourning
A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown
Of rags and silks, a costume
Fit for one who sits and cries
For all tomorrow's parties"
-The Velvet Underground, written from Reed's observations at the factory

Photographer Miwa Yamagi takes a slightly creepy spin on fairytales in her collection respectfully entitled "Fairytales." Feast your eyes!

london calling

I am sure we are all at least somewhat familiar with light art, also known as light graffiti. Mix that with the world of fashion, and a wonderful piece of art is produced. Thank you, Atton Conrad.

Artist Beatrice Boyle is taking over London with her artistic portrayals of the "drunken druggie" and have become quite the must have prints on graphic tees. I will definitely be adding one to my shopping cart.
